Preliminary Task number 2

Task: Poster making

We were given a task to recreate the poster of a movie of our choice. In this case I chose Men In Black 3. The software used to edit the poster was Adobe Photoshop.

The original picture used was the one above. Using the Pen tool in the photoshop software I was able to remove the people from the original picture.

The Poster was based on the style of the following two posters.

The Layout of the poster regarding the text arrangement was based on the first poster. The arrangement and style of the characters was based on the second poster.

The Background of the poster was taken from the above image.

The Gun was again Pen tooled from the above image.

After some final touches such as color correction etc. the final Poster that I made of the Movie Men In Black 3 is below.

Research Work

Research Work

The Genre I have chosen for my Movie is Action/Thriller. In general I think you do a lot more in an action movie than any other type of genre. I have analysed the introdction scenes of different movies of genres such as horror, sci-fi, drama and comedy. Comedy movies generally start off with jolly fun music and the movie starts quite simple. One thing common to almost all the intro shots in the movies is that they show an area or place which is easy to recognise such as many of the movies shot in New York City generally show the Empire State Building. In the Horror movie genre they usually start with something suspensing, scary or thrilling right from the begginning however it never depicts the background of the story for example in The Possession the opening shot is based around the possessed box and the scene is quite thrilling but it does not tell us the story behind it, we learn that later on in the film. In an Action movie you can start right off from some guns blazing and bombs exploding or you can start off from something as simple as a person waking up.

Main Task: MoviePoster

Movie Poster

Today we got the task to recreate a movie poster of our favourite movie and only us text and logos. We were not allowed use any images. We used the software Adobe Illustrator and learned how to use different features of the software. Such as the Pen Tool.

The Spider man logo in the middle of the poster was removed from another picture using the pen tool.

The Background was chosen as this colour as both the red of the logo and blue of the background represent the colours of the Spiderman suit.

The font used is Impact as it suited the title and poster itself.

My Introduction to Media Studies

The Brief I have chosen is the Video because I've always had an interest in video making. For quite some time I have been making different types of Short Films, Music Videos and Trailer Films. I have been taking part in different Filming competitions in the past few years and have had an amazing response to our videos which motivates me to continue in this line.

The reason I chose Media Studies as a subject is to learn more about the proper way of Film making learn the different software which are used in producing Films around the world. I believe that keeping media studies as a subject will be a big help in the future even if I don't continue in this line of work.
Media Studies shows us the art of Media in a different way than how we have been looking at it before. It goes into the depth of this form of art and explain us how the great artists have been producing their masterpieces and how they have changed the way we view this world. Media truly has an impact on our lives. From Songs to Movies to everything that we see on our TV, its all Media. Knowing a few soft-wares such as Garage Band and Apple Movie maker etc. and keeping Media Studies as a subject I believe will give me the opportunity to learn many more.
